Injury is the thief of time πŸ•°οΈ

Hey everyone,

Flourish is still enrolling (until 22 September) and here's one fantastic question I received this week:

Can I participate in this Flourish cycle if I'm currently rehabbing an injury or unable to get in the air?

Well, actually, a big resounding YES.

[
Obviously with some very common sense, context-specific caveats, so let me explain...]

Working creatively around a 'limitation' is exactly what Flourish designed to accommodate. It's basically the kind of coaching programme I wish I'd had access to all those times I was grounded (injury, lack of access to rigging) and felt left behind.

I felt like time was running past me. And I was running out of time, not doing anything 'useful' because i could only advance my aerial goals by... training aerial in the air.

Spoiler: we know, in our hearts, that this isn't true.

TIME out of the air is NOT wasted! There are SO many things you can be doing to keep you motivated, hopeful, creative and moving in ways that will FULLY SUPPORT YOUR AERIAL PRACTICE when you get back in the air.

(I'm saying all this in shouty capitals to past me.)

When we're deprived of that aerial brain chemical hit, is exactly the time we most might benefit from some focus and support

The group strand of Flourish includes biweekly classes, creative prompts, WhatsApp support, a resource library all designed to combine to give you:

πŸ“accessible exercises for developing your movement quality - whether that's on or off apparatus, full body or working where you are
πŸ“ guided bodywork and breathwork for getting your nervous system online and retuned to support you
πŸ“ bitesize creative tasks to keep you curious and exploring
πŸ“ aerial technique concepts and drills that can be explored on the ground (one of my favourite teaching stategies
πŸ“ reflective assignments to rebuild and replan your practice, and create concrete injury coping strategies

And why am I qualified to deliver this?

HA. Well... obviously a combination of learning from my own considerable experience πŸ™„ BUT ALSO my professional background in inclusive practice: working, touring, performing and teaching for aerial dance companies who work with professional disabled dancers to make work for all audiences. This is ALL about inclusion and ADAPTATION

...and that's adaptation without compromising artistic excellence

Are you in(terested)?!

"Jess excels in adapting, whether its helping to find a way to make a skill work for your body proportions or a last minute change of lesson plan because you're tired or injured. She is always understanding and you never feel inadequate or alone in your struggles. She is excellent at cueing and demystifying confusing skills - I've made many breakthroughs from working with Jess. When I'm struggling with something I often find Jess can look at it once and give me a cue that works for my body and enables me to unlock a goal." - Laura

Warmest wishes from West Wales,
Jess

Hey everyone,Flourish is still enrolling (but only for 36 more hours - you can get in on that here!) and one of my favourite things about onboarding is asking Flourish students to DM me their aerial mood board - that's up to 10 IG reels or posts which give me a sense of their current interests and goals. Because most aerialists tend to have a shopping list of 500000 skills, I stipulate ONLY 3 skills with the rest focusing on movement quality, choreographic detail, values, whimsy or anything...
