The story behind Pathways to Practice 🧭

Hey everyone,

I’m really looking forward to this Sunday’s Pathways to Practice workshop. I wanted to share a bit about the background to this idea, for anyone who's interested.

Before I do, if this is your first time hearing about it because… email inbox overwhelm, you can head over here to read more and register for free:

Or if you're here because you already saw my IG post, thank you - I’ve been touched by such a big response to the subject of developing a resilient practice as aerialists and movers.

I’m so glad that it resonated with so many folks. It definitely came from a very raw and honest and (actually quite) vulnerable place...

The idea for this workshop came about because in recent weeks I’ve been busy planning how I want my online aerial coaching to look, now that I’m returning to the world a bit like a mole coming above ground...

(As most of you know, I took a big break from anything except ongoing 1:1 coaching for my alums, when my dog and soul companion Cai got a terminal diagnosis last year until he finally left us in June. An impossibility I will be processing for a long time…)

And - in the way that i’ve more often experienced with art-making (than business planning), where the work feels like it’s channeling through me, not that I’m creating it - I was genuinely surprised by what emerged with such conviction:

That I wanted to focus as much on helping folks build their own nourishing aerial movement practice that served them for the long haul, as well as helping them to achieve any skills within it.

This is because my own practice has changed a lot over time - with injury and a fluctuating autoimmune disease and grief - but also because I feel like circus has a bit of a tendency to suck us all into a bit of a cycle of despair when we focus too much on skills and then... something stops us training them.

And this awareness was always a bit problematic for me to reconcile with myself, when I was mostly coaching with a skill acquisition focus (and I still LOVE COACHING SKILls... I feel obliged to say!!! This is definitely a both/and scenario, not either/or)

On Sunday I'm going to do my absolute best to get through as much useful info as i possibly can in our ONE HOUR together, because I truly believe that consciously building a practice is so important.

But I'm here to say that of course, I can only deliver the signposts - the headline statements - of what I've been working on in recent weeks. Which is part of a much deeper (12 week) guided process that now forms the backbone of my very refurbished online coaching programme Flourish. And that opens to applications next week... and if you want to read more about how that's shaping up, I'm currently sharing the early release details with my waitlist:

If you've got this far - thanks for reading. Someone recently let me know they'd read all my blogs (you know who you are, and thank you!) and in an era when big tech is making attention the hottest commodity, i felt super honoured.

Warmest wishes from West Wales,
Jess

PS By the way - and I can’t believe i’m saying this but here we are in 2026 - it’s always all me writing these words, with my tippy tappy human fingers and big human emotions, in case that wasn’t already obvious. So I'm adding activist and artist Andrew Simonet's hi-mark to my work... look how friendly it is!

Hey everyone,Flourish is still enrolling (but only for 36 more hours - you can get in on that here!) and one of my favourite things about onboarding is asking Flourish students to DM me their aerial mood board - that's up to 10 IG reels or posts which give me a sense of their current interests and goals. Because most aerialists tend to have a shopping list of 500000 skills, I stipulate ONLY 3 skills with the rest focusing on movement quality, choreographic detail, values, whimsy or anything...
